With the release of their new chrome colorway for their "Astro" wheels, Kansei asked me to recreate an iconic scene in the drifting community for the release advertisement. That scene, being ingrained in any car enthusiast's mind, is the opening shot of "2 Fast 2 Furious".

When attempting to recreate something as iconic as this scene, I was faced with a lot of thoughts: "Where do I begin? You said you wanted what? Please tell me you have the CAD files..." The drifting community is bound by 2 main things - cars and their love for car-related movies. After several calls about ideas, moodboards, and of course re-watching the film (for research purposes), I got started modeling the scene and laying out the scale of the animation. The most challenging part was using geometry nodes for the globe city light emissions. Hundreds of keyframes later, we have Scene 1. Scene 2 was the all chrome variation transitioning the globe elements into the Kansei Astro. Both scenes were rendered in K-Cycles then EXRs were imported in After Effects for final compositing and color grading. Deliverables included a horizontal 16:9 version in ProRes and H.264, a 9:16 vertical recomp for social media ads also in ProRes and H.264, and five chrome treated title graphics for various uses. The advertisement has garnered nearly 300k views in the first few weeks on Instagram alone. Frames rendered: 1,560.
